2 colour and deboss business cardsLightbulb are a design consultancy with bright ideas looking for a print finish to give their business cards another dimension. The design was created for letterpress and the black and grey ink sinks deep into the 425gsm pure cotton paper. The focal point though is the debossed lightbulb, certain to draw attention when handed out. A deboss clearly shows the impression letterpress can make into the paper, leaving a beautiful tactile finish only possible with this amazing technique.

A bit of a thank you really after an interview we took part in for the CCCCareer website.

Richard’s design is strong and bold typography in black and grey and has printed really well on the 540 white board.

The job was part of our unique #LetterpressLive tweeting sessions on Twitter, where we tweet each stage of the process as it happens and is an insight into blush°° and the letterpress process. If you missed the session you can catch up on our Flickr pages.

Silver on Black Letterpress Business Card

Silver ink on Black letterpress business cardSilver ink on Black letterpress business cardSilver ink on Black letterpress business cardLess is more on this business card we printed recently for Jökull Sólberg Auðunsson. Along with the initial inquiry came lots of examples of the kind of effect Jökull was looking to achieve. After a few emails back and to we felt we had a clear idea of the best way forward. The cards were printed on our Heidelberg platen in silver ink onto 540gsm black stock. The sheen from the silver ink changing with light from different directions.

The heavy stock allowed for a deep impression which resulted a firm business card that feels solid in your hand.

1 Colour Business Cards

1 colour business card1 colour business card1 colour business card1 colour business cardJohn Henry called on blush°° to print his business cards. We discussed which papers would be most suitable as he wanted a really deep impression. After seeing John’s artwork we recommended Saunders 425gsm. A beautiful soft white cotton paper heavier than the average business card but not too thick to take up too much room in his wallet!

Getting the right amount of ink was critical for this design. We had to have enough coverage for the block at the top of the card without over inking the finer typography at the bottom.

Business Card & Type Matters!

Typographer business card

We thought these business cards deserved an airing. We printed them for our good friend and collaborator, typographer Jim Williams. Jim has been working with blush°° since the start, creating our logo and designing our stationery. He has designed many of our greeting cards including our “Quotes” range and is currently working on 6 new quotes to add to the range.

Jim asked us to print his business cards in black and red ink, letterpress printed onto 100% cotton paper. Jim’s attention to detail is legendary. He carefully and considerately chooses the right typeface for each job and manually kerning characters by the smallest amounts. Who would ever notice…? Well, we and others do notice and that’s why we like working with Jim.

Jim is a fount(ain) of knowledge when it comes to typography and this is put to good use when he teaches at Staffordshire University. This has led on to Jim creating his booklet, Type Matters! A few simple tips on how to keep your typography in good order.

Type Matters! covers the basics of typography and typesetting, touching on how some typographic terminology comes straight out of the letterpress print room. A more comprehensive and detailed book is a must!

Duplex Business Card

Grey & debosed business cardGrey & debosed business cardGrey & debosed business cardGrey & debosed business cardWe enjoyed printing these business cards for designer David Parsons at Give A Damn Design. A clean design of slab serif type in grey ink and debossed logo. Deboss is letterpress printing but with no ink and creates a superbly tactile finish. (Click here to see another example of deboss). The card is white front and grey back, sandwiched together to create a striking effect that works with the design.

The cards were designed by David and supplied to us as a PDF and we printed the cards on our 1969 Heidelberg press.
